Uttaranchal University was established in 2013 vide the Uttaranchal University Act, 2012 (Uttarakhand Act No. 11 of 2013) as a Private University. Founded by the Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies & Research, the university is recognized by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, and by various statutory bodies at both state and national levels. The university has achieved the prestigious "A+ Grade" accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) — making it the first and only private university in Uttarakhand to receive NAAC A+ in the first cycle of accreditation. This firmly positions Uttaranchal University among the top 5% of higher education institutions in the country. With 24+ years of educational experience (roots tracing back to 2002), the university offers 100+ multidisciplinary programs across schools of Law, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Applied & Life Sciences, Liberal Arts, Computing Sciences, Hotel & Hospitality Management, Health Sciences, and Nursing. Its alumni network includes over 73 judges serving at state, national, and international levels. In 2025, the School of Pharmacy (UIPS) secured 75th rank in NIRF. The university is also featured in QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, QS Sustainability Rankings, and THE Impact Rankings 2024–2025.
